Most die within months so you're wasting your time on something that will eventually be wiped. Lets take the official EU server that has been closed down 2 times and re-oppend a third time and lets not talk about the cash shop and that the EU server was always 6 to 12 month behind the US and Korean server becuse Gravity are a bunch of idiots.īut yes allot of times private servers are better. Some people prefer the private sever thanks to how shitty the official company has handled their game liek Gravity has handled Ragnarok. Yes they won´t have the same budget or amount of devs but I seen private servers that has done 100 better job than the official team and cared and loved the game more than the official studio ever has.īut well most mmo that are officially dead/discontinued are still around thanks to private servers like Warhammer online as an example. Why are people so obsessed if a mmo is good or not by player numbers not every one like the same shit. yes some servers will never have more than 1000- 10000 players but as I stated a 100 times player numbers means jack shit.Yes allot of them die others are around for several years I can name a few that been around for 10-12 year. Most hobbies are unproductive, though you could argue that playing old expansions has a therapeutic effect to it. Ultimately though, yes, you're wasting time, but that's the point of a hobby - you waste time but it will be a fun time. Some private servers also give guarantees such as "guaranteed lifetime is 3 years" to incite the migration to their server. Nowadays it's within expectations to have a server up for about a year minimum, because even if it dies population-wise, it's very easy and cheap to maintain a "dead" server. So the people who still want to experience the game as they liked it have no choice but to go to the private servers. It's more common for old mmo because usually they couldn't adequately handle the evolution of the genre so they had to change their gameplay drastically, making it into a game that people didn't want to play, just because the market dictated so. Vanilla wow had many private servers prior to the official classic release because many people prefer vanilla wow over retail wow. If you're a nu-mmo player, wow classic would be an excellent example. IF YOU SEND A MESSAGE TO THE MODS ABOUT A POST YOU MADE INCLUDE A LINK TO THAT POST.
